The Padded Room hosts quarterly photography challenges. Beginners and professionals are both welcome to participate. The challenges are posted on our @thepaddedroomofficial instagram page a couple weeks prior to the photo submission due date.
Each challenge is themed with rules and has a dedicated hashtag that is required to be applied to participate.
Rules may vary per challenge.
Email Entry Instructions
For those without an Instagram account that still wish to participate in any challenge, send an email to Mike Bellchambers at tprchallenge@gmail.com
When sending photo entry, label subject line of the email with "(Insert Challenge Name) Photo Submission - (Insert Full Name of Applicant)"
In the body of the email, attach the photo and list:

The Padded Room Challenge: REFLECT
Welcome to The Padded Room’s photography challenge, “REFLECT”. We are excited to see your best reflection photos which highlight your creativity with reflective surfaces.
Rules
1. To participate, you need to have an Instagram account (see point 9 if you know of an interested photographer/entrant without an account).
2. Each participant may submit a maximum of one entry for consideration.
3. The hashtag for this challenge is #thepaddedroomreflect
4. The entry you submit should be your original work, photographed by you.
5. The entry must be a new post, include a suitable caption/title along with a short description (less than 250 words) to accompany your photo, along with the hashtag stated above.
6. Entry submission opens at Noon EDT (UTC -4) on August 15th, 2023 and closes at Noon EDT on August 31st, 2023. Entries submitted outside of the submission window will be ineligible.
7. Your photo can include any subject which is reflected on a surface.
8. The photo need not be current. Older photos will be eligible if you cannot manage to photograph something within the challenge dates stated (August 15th – August 31st, 2023).
9. In case you are submitting an entry for another person (without an Instagram account), the original creator of the submitted entry will be required to email us with his/her entry. After our consent, you may then use your account to submit the entry (prior to deadline) for exhibition on Instagram. This will ensure due credit is given to the original creator.
10. By entering this challenge, you hereby agree to let us use your photograph on our website, our Instagram hub page, and any other avenue we see as beneficial to promote your work and our challenge. You also agree your entry does not infringe upon any intellectual property rights or any other rights of any person or entity; and where applicable by law and regulations, all persons featured, named, or described in the entry have granted consent and permission for the image to be entered in the challenge.
11. Your original creation remains your work where copyrights go. We will merely use your photograph to promote your work, our current challenge, and any other challenges that we ideate in the future. Naturally, due credit will be given to you any/every time your work is used by us or our team members for promotion reasons (e.g. In our individual stories/shout-outs on our accounts).
12. We are not stringent on photography equipment used while participating in this challenge. You may use DSLR, mirrorless, point and shoot, or even mobile phone cameras to capture your photograph and exhibit your talent. Film photography converted to digital imagery is also acceptable. Please ensure your image is a minimum of 1000px wide in the event your image is selected for exhibition on our website.
13. Editing software can be used. Extensively manipulated photos to remove noticeable objects and/or add parts not on the original image will be ineligible and not considered for judging.
14. Our challenge is open to anyone who wishes to exhibit their creativity. We request you to be kind, respectful, and polite when you write your descriptions while submitting your entries. Any entry that breaches the rules, discriminates, or offends/hurts the sentiments of a particular group/individual/religion will be instantly disqualified.
15. We do not support plagiarism and request you to keep that in mind while entering your work. Any entry that closely resembles or is hugely inspired by another entry in this challenge will not be considered for judging.
16. Our panel of judges for this challenge and any future challenges will comprise of a mix of working media professionals spread across the world, carefully selected team members who are well versed with photography techniques, and photographers familiar with the challenge theme. This is to ensure fairness and remove any biases during the judging process.
17. The decision of the judges will be final.
18. If you are a finalist, you will be notified via Direct Message on Instagram and requested to email or upload us a high-resolution image of your selected work.
19. While every care is taken to explain the rules and write down your rights as a participant, we reserve the right to change some of the above if the need arises.
20. There will be 3 winners announced.
21. This challenge is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram.
